  • After rotating the fish around a bit to find the best combo; I have three of the four peacefully living together!  They're still a bit torn up from the initial ranking arguments, but they haven't obtained any new battlescars since.  There's a blue (Sapphire), a white/red (Garnet), and a red (Sophie).  Here's the tank set up;

  • Meanwhile, Scarlet got bumped to the two-gallon, which she doesn't really seem to mind one bit!  She was quite the bully in the ten gallon and seems much happier on her own.  I've decided to work on planting this tank a bit, so I purchased an anubias hastiofola and trimmed a few little rotala stems from my other tank.  I also put in a little java moss and the single pennyworth stem I have left.  I just put a compact spiral flourescent bulb in my desk lamp for the lighting for now...might build a proper hood this summer.  Here's the tank so far;

  • My third or fourth attempt at a semi-peaceful female sorority!
  • I wanted to do a substrate change for my divided ten gallon, and thought that this would be a great opportunity to give the tank a good cleaning followed by rearranging the set up.
  • I changed the gravel and added about 15 pieces of slate, stacked up to provide many hidey-holes.  I also added some sea shells that my mom gave to me (after researching the proper ways of cleaning them and the risks they pose for a freshwater aquarium; my conclusion was that a few won't hurt as long as frequent water changes take place)
  • During this time I kept all four of my bettas in separate containers out of sight of one another.  Then after they were separated for about 2 hours, I added them into the tank all at the same time.
  • I did all of this re-arranging last night and this morning they all look okay!  Two of them have slight rips in their fins and a third is beat up a little worse.  I started treating with mela-fix today and will continue it for 7 days to help them keep up their strength and encourage the fins to heal.
